Learn and Live was started in 1989 and was directly responsible for the legislation  requiring persons who supervise learner drivers to be at least 21 and have a minimum 3 years experience as a fully-qualified driver.

Learn and Live contributed to the introduction of the Young Drivers Act and the Compulsory Theory Test although we wanted slightly different systems.

Since 1990, the campaign has been lobbying for a compulsory probationary period for newly-qualified drivers,together with common-sense proposals to reduce the horrendous accident rate amongst this group.
Learn and Live is now campaigning for a Graduated Driving Licence (GDL) which incorporates our previous proposals and which has been shown to reduce death and injuries in areas where it has already been adopted.
