Notes:
So why do we need a Novice Period?
Work in Sweden has demonstrated that trebling supervised driving practice (40-120 hours) reduces solo crash rates by more than 30%. The full licence is achieved at 18.
We need to ensure that training continues for everyone, not just for those with a responsible attitude - in other words a compulsory form of Pass Plus.
Sadly the UK New Driver Act catches only a small percentage of those at risk.
We know when inexperienced drivers are more likely to crash, so by including restrictions in the novice period we can cut down the risks.
